What's the Difference???

Between the Sloppy Joe and the Barbeque??? I grew up with them being called Barbeque's but now they are Sloppy Joes....is it just different parts of the country or is it something else? Hmmm.......Anyway Have I got the ultimate "Sloppy Joes" for you;)
Recipe from * The Somero Cottage Kitchen Cookbook*
1 lb. ground beef or turkey 2 T. brown sugar
1/4 t. salt 3 T. Worcestershire sauce
dash of pepper 1 t. dry mustard
1/4 c. chopped onion 1/4 c. lemon juice
1/4 c. chopped celery 2 T. vinegar
1 c. ketchup 1/2 c. water

Brown meat, drain. Add in order given, remaining ingredients. Simmer 20 mins. or until thickened.

We serve potato salad on the side and I personally like to top mine with relish:)

  1. I always thought that "Barbecue" was pulled beef or pork in a sauce and "Sloppy Joe's" were ground beef in a sauce. :o)

  3. Here in Iowa we call them either "maidrites", "loss meat sandwiches" or "sloppy joes". I think technically sloppy joes are with all the seasonings, tomato sauce, etc. We tend to eat them here with just ketchup/mustard mixed in or a can of chicken gumbo soup mixed in (I know sounds weird, but good!)

  4. In the midwest those are sloppy joes or lose meat sandwiches. My recipe calls for chicken gumbo soup, as well. And yes it is good.

  5. I never knew that they were called so many different names. I've heard Rachel Ray calls them loose meat sandwiches before. At any rate, yours look delicious and I love those hamburger buns! Did you make them yourself?
